Red Devils remain unbeaten with win at Herrin

HERRIN — Road wins are golden when it comes to conference play. The Murphysboro Red Devils picked up one of those coveted items, holding off Herrin 54-45 in SIRR Ohio action to improve to 8-0 (2-0) on the season.

The Red Devils led 30-24 at the half, but Herrin used a 12-4 run to start the third quarter to take a 36-34 lead. Murphysboro answered by scoring the final seven points of the quarter to take a 41-36 lead to the fourth.

Herrin could get no closer the three in the fourth, as the Red Devils held the Tigers scoreless for nearly four minutes while extending their lead to nine.

Calvon Clemons led the Murphysboro attack with 19 points. Karmelo Abernathy added 10. The Tigers (3-2, 2-1) only had four players score with Exavier Williams, Kyrese Lukens, and Haydon Mayer combining for 43 of their 45 points led by Williams who had 17.
