West Frankfort pulls away from SVW for win

WEST FRANKFORT — The West Frankfort Lady Redbirds used big first and third quarters to turn back Sesser-Valier/Waltonville 54-42 at the West Frankfort Girls Mid-Winter Classic Tuesday night.

The Lady Redbirds built a 17-7 lead after one quarter, only to watch the Red Devils close within 29-25 by halftime. In the third quarter, West Frankfort pulled away again, outscoring SVW 15-6 to take 13-point lead into the fourth quarter.

Lani Wolfe led West Frankfort with 13 points. Karsyn Thrash added 12 and Makane Cass 11. Patrice Laur led SVW with 15. Micah Reynolds added 12.

The Lady Redbirds will close the tournament Wednesday night against Pinckneyville. The Red Devils will wrap up the tournament against Herrin.
