Herrin, 4 individuals headed to Boys Bowling State Tournament

The Herrin Tigers, along with bowlers from Harrisburg, Carterville, and Salem, all earned trips to next week’s State Bowling Tournament at the Alton Sectional Saturday. The State Tournament will be Friday and Saturday at St. Clair Bowl in O’Fallon.

The Tigers finished fourth in the 16-team sectional, 268 pins behind sectional champion Waterloo. Senior Jayden Vorhes led the way for the Tigers with 1308 pins. Freshman Chase Lannom was second on the team with 1290 pins.

The top six teams advance. The Salem Wildcats finished eighth, missing the cut by 57 pins. Wildcats Charlie Hunter and Colton Shoemaker advanced as individuals as did Harrisburg’s Evan McDermott and Carterville’s Evan Flath. Harrisburg’s Noah Arnold is one of two potential at-large advancers.

Breese Mater Dei’s Zach Ludwig was the individual champion with 1376 pins.

Carterville finished 11th as a team. Mt Vernon was 12th with Centralia finishing 14th.
