NASHVILLE — Alecia Doyle scored 13 of her 17 points after halftime to help Carterville outlast Nashville 42-34 in overtime to take over first place in the SIRR Mississippi.

Points were at a premium all night. The Hornettes led 17-12 at the half, but the game changed in the third quarter. The Lady Lions equaled their first half output, outscoring Nashville 12-4 to take a 24-21 lead to fourth.

After Doyle hit a three-pointer to extend Carterville’s lead to six early in the fourth, Nashville chipped away, eventually tying the game at 31 on Jordan Donato’s pair of free throw makes with 54 seconds to play. The Lady Lions held for the final shot, but Doyle was unable to connect at the buzzer, sending the game to overtime.

Carterville scored the first seven points of overtime on a Kristin Edmonds three-pointer, Amayah Doyle bucket inside, and two free throws from Alecia Doyle. Alyssa Cole hit a three to stop the run and pull the Hornettes within 38-34, but that was Nashville’s only points of the overtime. The Hornettes made only three field goals in the second half and overtime–one in each quarter and one in overtime.

Cole led all scorers with 18 before fouling out. Amayah Doyle joined her sister, Alecia, in double figures with 10 for Carterville.

With the win, Carterville (22-4) stands 6-1 in the conference with only a road game left at Pinckneyville. Nashville (16-7) is a half game back at 5-1 in the conference. The Hornettes also must travel to Pinckneyville before closing at home against Du Quoin.
