Area bowlers advance to Saturday’s State Finals

O’FALLON — 24 teams and 30 individuals qualified for the two day Boys State Bowling Tournament at St. Clair Bowl in O’Fallon. The team field is cut in half for the second day, with the top 30 individuals not on those 12 teams also advancing.

Herrin finished 14th, missing the cut as team by 109 pins. There are seven individuals from the region to make the cut, including a pair of Tigers and a pair of Salem Wildcats. Colton Shoemaker (Salem), Jayden Vorhes (Herrin), Charlie Hunter (Salem), Evan Flath (Carterville), Lake Ward (Herrin), Evan McDermott (Harrisburg), and Zach Ludwig (Mater Dei), all made the cut and will compete in Saturday’s final two rounds. Shoemaker (17th) and Vorhes (19th) will start the final day in the top 20.

The competition resumes at 9:00 Saturday morning. No fans were allowed at Friday’s competition. Two fans per qualified bowler are allowed today.
