METROPOLIS — Having already wrapped up the SIRR Ohio title last week, the Benton Rangerettes still had a chance at a perfect conference season, but would have to win at Massac County to do so.

The Lady Patriots had other ideas, holding off Benton 39-33 to hand the Rangerettes their first conference loss.

Massac County trailed 19-16 at the half, but used a big third quarter to take a 28-23 lead into the fourth. The Lady Patriots quickly extended that lead to eight only to watch the Rangerettes rally.

Benton had the deficit down to three with the ball, but the Lady Patriots’ defense forced a couple of turnovers that both led to baskets for some breathing room.

Elise Coakley led Massac County with 11 points. Adalyn Gower added 10. Benton’s Ensley Tedeschi led all scorers with 14.
