Salem, A-J, Mt. Vernon’s Storment all headed to State

MT. VERNON — It was a packed house at Mt. Vernon’s Nu Bowl Lanes for the Girls Bowling Sectional Saturday. The top four teams and top five individuals not on those the four teams all earned trips to the State Tournament in Rockford.

The Lady Wildcats, both of the Salem and Anna-Jonesboro variety, spent all six games in the top four. Salem placed three individuals in the top 12 and wound up second with 5676 pins, 99 pins behind Collinsville. Elena Vanhoutin, Sarah Sauter, and Abby Cunningham finished 9th, 10th, and 12th. Led by Madi Hawk’s fifth place individual finish, Anna-Jonesboro took third with 5593 pins. Belleville East grabbed the final team spot to advance.

Mt. Vernon junior Makayla Storment used a strong finish to claim one of the five individual advancing spots. Storment rolled games of 237 and 235 to move up five spots to earn a state spot. Vandalia’s Madison Ferguson was the individual champion with 1404 pins.

The State Tournament will be Friday and Saturday at the Cherry Bowl in Rockford.
