Steeleville shuts down Edwards County for regional championship

WOODLAWN — It took an extra day due to weather postponements, but the Steeleville Warriors won the Woodlawn 1A Regional championship Saturday night by taking care of Edwards County 56-38.

A high scoring first quarter saw the Warriors lead 18-15, but they held the Lions to 21 points the rest of the way. Steeleville broke open a close game with a 10-2 run late in the first half to take a 36-22 lead into the break.

The Lions could get no closer than nine points in the fourth quarter, as Steeleville scored the final nine points of the game for the final margin of victory.

Jacoby Gross led the Warriors with 18 points. Zach Mevert added 16. Dylan Rhodes led Edwards County with 15 points. Alex Calverley added 10.

Steeleville advances to the Okawville Sectional, where the Warriors will face Goreville Tuesday night at 7:00.
