MOUNT STERLING — It was a matchup worthy of a state final, as Okawville battled Brimfield in a matchup of the top-ranked teams in the state at the Brown County 1A Supersectional. The Indians held on to slip by the Lady Rockets 45-42 to clinch a spot in the 1A State Semifinals.

The Lady Rockets did not go down without a fight. After trailing by seven early in the second quarter, Okawville rallied to cut Brimfield’s lead to 26-23 by halftime. The Lady Rockets tied the game at 33-33 after three, and even took a 42-40 lead late in the fourth.

Brimfield senior Ella Lune buried the go ahead three-pointer with less than a minute to play. The Indians tacked on a couple of free throw for a three-point lead. The Lady Rockets had a chance in the closing seconds to tie, but their three-pointer was off the mark.

Lune and Elynn Peterson led the Indians with 15 points apiece. Okawville’s Alayna Kraus led all scorers with 22.

Brimfield advances to face Neoga in the first 1A semifinal, Thursday morning at 10:00 at Redbird Arena. Okawville’s fantastic season ends at 30-3.
