MARION — It may have been a chilly and gray morning at Rent One Park, but that did nothing to cool down the Du Quoin Indians’ hot start. The Indians improved to 4-0 with a 7-3 win over Herrin.

The Tigers are playing a handful of games at Rent One while their home field has some work completed.

Herrin jumped on top in the bottom of the second, courtesy an RBI single from Chase Bigham that scored Carter McCree. Bigham had a pair of run-scoring hits on the day, both plating McCree.

The Indians did not get on the board until the fourth when they scored three times, sandwiching productive outs around a bases loaded single. David Lee’s run scoring ground out tied the game at one. Gage Green’s RBI single gave the Indians a 2-1 lead. Eli Maynor followed with a sacrifice fly to make it 3-1. Du Quoin would’ve added more runs in the fourth, but Herrin’s Hunter Serena robbed Luke Bauman with a diving catch in centerfield to end the inning.

After Bigham’s second RBI hit pulled Herrin within 3-2, the Indians added two in the fifth and two more in the seventh for a 7-2 lead.

The Tigers tried to mount a two-out rally in the bottom of the seventh, plating a run on Cameron Evrard’s infield single, but with the tying run on deck, Indians reliever Camden Waller got Nick Hubbard to pop out to second to end the game.
