BENTON — After going four days without playing a game, the Benton Rangers had no trouble getting back on track, beating the Eldorado Eagles 12-0 in five innings behind a no-hitter from Mason Tieffel along with home runs from Asher Wyant and Jacob Kinsman.
The Rangers started their offense rolling in the bottom of the first. Tyler Chamness got on and stole two bases to lead to the first score of the game. Chamness had three steals on the day.
Later in the inning, Wyant hit a two-run home run that put the Rangers up 3-0. Benton added two more runs for a 5-0 lead after one.
Meanwhile, Tieffel was cruising on the mound as well. The sophomore struck out seven in five shutout innings while not allowing a hit.
Benton led 8-0 heading to the bottom of the fifth. Lukas Wilson led off with a single and later scored when Tieffel hit into a bases-loaded fielder’s choice to make it 9-0. Then with runners on the corners, Kinsman ended it with a moon shot to right-center field. The walk-off three-run homer gave the Rangers a 12-0 win.
With the win, Benton improves to 4-4. The Rangers will open SIRR Ohio play Monday at home against the Herrin Tigers (4-6). The Eagles drop to 1-4. They’ll face Carrier Mills/Stonefort (2-2) Monday.
