MARION — Herrin juniors Ryley Calcaterra and Brock Dury won the Lake of Egypt Bass Fishing Sectional championship, edging Goreville’s Ty Robison and Hunter Francis by two ounces. Both teams, along with Century’s Trevor Wilburn and Kagen Hill, all qualified for the State Tournament.

Robison and Francis hauled in the day’s big bass (3-12) and weighed-in a five fish limit of 15 pounds, six ounces. They were one of the first groups to weigh-in and held the clubhouse lead until Calcaterra and Dury strolled to the scale with their bag that weighed in at 15 pounds, eight ounces.

The teams faced a long, rainy morning out on the water. Calcaterra and Dury say the fish really started biting after the rain rolled through. 22 of the 23 teams in the field brought in the five fish limit.

Gallatin County’s Collin Monroe and Jake Colbert finished fourth and will be the alternate team. The State Tournament will be held May 20-21 at Carlyle Lake.
