WALTONVILLE — Waltonville/Sesser-Valier’s Olivia Tipton is the Orthopaedic Center of Southern Illinois Player of the Week for March 28-April 2.

The sophomore was 10-16 at the plate with two doubles, four home runs, nine RBIs, and 10 runs scored. Tipton also picked up two wins in the circle, striking out 21, but she is quick to deflect praise for her success.

Tipton says the weather has made it tough this spring to develop consistency. Wet fields have led to numerous practices in the gym for the team to get its work done.

And the work is paying off. After an 8-20 season a year ago, the Spartans have doubled their win total this year.
