Orthopaedic Center of Southern Illinois Player of the Week nominees

Voting is now open and will run through midnight Thursday for this week’s Orthopaedic Center of Southern Illinois Player of the Week. The poll is on the upper right-hand side of the page.

Here are the nominees:

Cameron Ande, Harrisburg: The sophomore was 7-13 with 4 doubles, 2 home runs, 7 RBIS, and 6 runs scored in 4 games, including 2 homers and 5 RBIs in the SIRR Ohio championship clinching win over Herrin.

Ryley Calcaterra/Brock Dury, Herrin: The Tigers duo won the Lake of Egypt Bass Fishing Sectional and earned a trip to the State Tournament by catching a 5 fish limit that weighed in at more than 15 and a half pounds.

Tanner Koontz, Mt. Vernon: The senior won the pole vault at both the Ram Invite (15-0) and the Collinsville Invite (15-4). Koontz’ effort at Collinsville broke a school record that had stood for 21 years.

Jackson Kranawetter, Trico: The senior was 3-5 with 2 home runs, 3 RBIs, and 3 runs scored at the plate and picked up the win on the mound allowing 1 run on 5 hits over 7 innings while striking out 10 in a win over Vienna.

Karli Mann, Herrin: The sophomore won 4 events to help the Lady Tigers capture the SIRR–Ohio championship. Mann won the 200 (27.52), the 400 (1:04.27), the long jump (16-2), and the triple jump (36-1).

Olivia Phillips, Du Quoin: The senior won 3 events and was part of a relay winning team helping the Lady Indians capture the SIRR–Mississippi championship. Phillips won the 800 (2:24.21), 1600 (5:22.40), and the 3200 (11:56.29) as well as running a leg on the 4×400 winning team. Phillips’ times in the 1600 and 3200 set new conference meet records.

Lily Taft/Owen Dunn, Nashville: The Hornets duo won the Rend Lake Bass Fishing Sectional and earned a trip to the State Tournament by catching more than 8 pounds of fish.

McGwire Taylor, Fairfield: The senior threw his second straight no-hitter, striking out 13 in a shutout win over Flora.
