DU QUOIN — The Du Quoin Lady Indians won seven individual events and all four relays to cruise to the team title at their own 1A Girls Track and Field Sectional.

Senior Jalynn Wood, who just signed with SIU earlier in the week, won three events–the pole vault, the 100 hurdles and the 300 hurdles. Freshman Love Dunklin won both the long and triple jumps, while seniors Grace Alongi and Olivia Phillips both qualified in multiple individual events as well as two relay events. Phillips set a school record in the 800 with a time of 2:16.65. Sophie Hill and Ellee Green gave Du Quoin a sweep of the high jump, with Dunklin and Alongi sweeping the triple jump.

A pair of sophomores not from Du Quoin had big days as well. Pope County’s Ahry Comer won the 1600 and the 3200 and finished second to Phillips in the 800 to qualify for state in that event as well.

Christopher’s Amiah Hargrove won a pair of close races to bring home the individual titles in the 100 and the 200.

The 1A State Track and Field semifinals are Thursday in Charleston, with the championship on Saturday.
