Johnson’s monster night leads Centralia to blowout win

OLNEY – Led by a career night from senior Amir Johnson, the Centralia Orphans improved to 2-0 on the young season with a 58-12 win at Olney.

Johnson rushed for 135 yards on 20 carries with five touchdowns and returned an interception for a sixth touchdown.

The Orphans jumped out to a 17-0 lead at the end of one quarter only to watch the Tigers cut that lead to 17-12 early in the second quarter. The Orphans extended the lead back to 24-12 at the half, then dominated the second half.

Centralia outscored Olney 34-0 after halftime. The Orphans scored three touchdowns in the third with Johnson’s 26-yard pick six to go along with a 5-yard TD run and a Daryle Jones’ 44-yard TD reception. In the fourth, Centralia added another TD run from Johnson as well as another interception return touchdown, this one from Dakota Starr.

Orphans’ quarterback Carson Green was 9 of 15 for 166 yards and a TD. Jones finished with four receptions for 107 yards and a score. Xavier Koch added 59 yards receiving on five catches.

The Orphans (2-0) will play at Mascoutah (2-0), while Olney (1-1) will visit Salem (1-1) Friday night.
