Benton, Anna-Jonesboro win SIRR Boys Golf titles

CARBONDALE — Benton and Anna-Jonesboro took home the team titles at the SIRR Boys Golf Championships held at Hickory Ridge in Carbondale.

The Rangers won their eighth straight conference title, this one by 42 shots over West Frankfort and 43 over Massac County. Benton claimed the top four and five of the top six individual spots, led by River Stilley’s 1-under 71 for medalist honors. Cy Norman (72) finished a shot back with Kash Cantrell (75) finishing third and Luke Melvin (76) fourth. West Frankfort’s Ben Herron (78) prevented a Ranger sweep of the top five. Herron was a shot better than Benton’s Jeremiah Kay.

SIRR Ohio All-Conference

West Frankfort’s Lucas Whittington (80), Massac County’s Preston Summers (81), Harrisburg’s Grant Wilson (82), and Massac’s John Stephenson (83) also earned all-conference honors.

The Wildcats put five in the top nine to finish 14 shots ahead of Carterville and 16 ahead of Nashville. Hornets junior Parker Renken (74) took home medalist honors for the second straight year. Renken finished five shots better than A-J’s Aidan McFadden.

SIRR Mississippi All-Conference

McFadden’s teammate Nick Hannan (81) was third by a tiebreaker. Carterville teammates Spencer Brown (81) and Connor Dixon (83) finished out the top five. A-J’s Taj Hodges (83), Pinckneyville’s Landon Travelstead (84), A-J’s Landon Brown (84) and Hayden Ralls (87), along with Carterville’s Jackson Burke (87) and Nashville’s Bryson McCleary (87) also earned all-conference honors.
