ANNA — The Fairfield Lady Mules made sure history did not repeat itself by defeating Massac County 25-19, 25-22 in the championship match of the Anna-Jonesboro 2A Volleyball Regional.

Last year, the Lady Mules fell to Carmi-White County in the regional finals, a team they had beaten twice earlier in the year. This year, Fairfield owned a pair of wins over the Lady Patriots, including last Saturday in the semis of the Fairfield Invitational.

Fairfield took the first set 25-19 and held a six-point lead in the second when the Lady Patriots rallied. Trailing 19-13, Massac County ripped off seven of the next eight points capped by a kill and an ace from Monique Hart.

The Lady Patriots could never regain the lead.

Fairfield scored five of the final seven points, with all-stater Emersyn Robbins recording the Lady Mules final two points on kills off Massac County blockers to complete the sweep.

The Lady Mules improve to 32-5 and advance to the Benton Sectional where they will face Nashville Monday at 6:00. The sectional was originally scheduled for Pinckneyville but had to be moved due to renovations continuing on Duster Thomas Gym.

The Lady Patriots finish their season 29-8.
