Pinckneyville, Christopher earn spots in Lady Indian Tip-Off title game

DU QUOIN — The Pinckneyville Panthers and Christopher Lady Bearcats each clinched spots on the championship game of the Du Quoin Lady Indian Tip-Off Tournament by sweeping their pool play with 55-25 victories Friday night.

The Panthers outscored Sesser-Valier/Waltonville 22-4 in the fourth quarter to pull away for the 30 point win. Olivia Wiggers led a balanced Pinckneyville attack with 12. Mo Morgenthaler added 11, and Rileigh Harris had 10.

The Lady Bearcats seized control of their game against Du Quoin by scoring the final 21 points in the opening quarter and never looking back. Amiah Hargrove led the way with 21, while Jessica Gordon added 14 for Christopher.

Also Friday night, Woodlawn beat Cairo 63-24, and Salem defeated Murphysboro 58-18. Woodlawn will face Salem for third place.
