Carbondale holds off Cahokia to win conference, home opener

CARBONDALE — The Carbondale Terriers held off Cahokia 59-49 to win head coach Lee Nailon’s South Seven and home debut.

Decarl Payne scored 12 of his 18 points in the fourth quarter as the Terriers did enough down the stretch for the win. Jeremiah Tate added 14 for Carbondale.

D’Kyren Kizer led Cahokia with 18 points, including four 3-pointers in the fourth quarter to try to keep his team in it.

The Terriers improve to 4-1. They will face Kankakee at 5:00 Saturday in the Wildcat Shootout in Marion.
