MURPHYSBORO — Murphysboro head coach Daryl Murphy said his team this year is young and “rebuilding a bit.” Reloading may be more accurate, after the Red Devils went 4-0 to win the Trico/Murphysboro Ernie Bozarth Memorial, beating Carterville 60-53 in the tournament title game.

Sophomore Cade Brooks led the Red Devils with 18 points. Tournament MVP Karmelo Abernathy added 17.

Caden Hawkins led the Lions (3-1) with 18 points, with Kade Lustenberger adding 15 and Peyton Bittle 11.

Both teams will open conference play on the road Friday night. Carterville travel to Du Quoin in the SIRR–Mississippi, while Murphysboro will head to Massac County.
