Orthopaedic Center of Southern Illinois Player of the Week nominees

Voting is now open and will run through midnight Friday for this week’s Orthopaedic Center of Southern Illinois Player of the Week.

Here are the nominees:

Sophie Bormann, Massac Co.: The senior was named MVP of the City of Metropolis Tournament after averaging 18 points, 5 rebounds, and 3.3 assists per game in 3 wins, helping the Lady Patriots win the title.

Mitchel Edwards, Carmi-White Co.: The sophomore averaged 18.5 points in 2 Bulldogs’ wins. Edwards made 11 of his 17 three-point field goal attempts.

Roderic Gatewood Jr., Meridian: The senior averaged 35.5 points in 2 Bobcats’ wins, including a career high 48 against Goreville. Gatewood Jr. hit 9 three-pointers in the win over the Blackcats.

Evan Noelle, Marion: The senior averaged 29.5 points in 2 game for the Wildcats. Noelle scored 28 including the game winning basket in overtime against Carbondale, then scored a career high 31 against Massac County.

Caleb Ohnesorge, Marion: The junior was named the Outstanding Wrestler at the Wildcat Wrestling Duals, where he went 5-0 and to help the Wildcats to the team title.

Mason Tieffel, Benton: The junior was 7-0 with 5 pins for the week and was named the Outstanding Wrestler at the Neal Wilson Invitational, helping the Rangers to a second place team finish.

Owen Treat, Vienna: The junior averaged 15 points and 16.5 assists in 2 Eagles’ wins, including a school record 20 assists in the win over Zeigler-Royalton.
