SESSER — Connor Mowery scored 26, and Laith Hoxworth added 23 to lead seventh seeded Johnston City past Waltonville 75-62 in an opening round game at the 41st Annual Sesser-Valier Holiday Tournament.

The Indians jumped out to a 19-4 first quarter lead only to watch Spartans close within 29-24 by the half.

Waltonville briefly took a 37-36 lead, but Mowery scored eight points during a decisive Indians’ run to close the third quarter giving Johnston City a 52-41 lead.

Johnston City will face second-seeded Altamont at 5:00 Tuesday in the quarterfinals.
