Lady Rams run past Rangerettes for Benton title

BENTON — The Mt. Vernon Lady Rams jumped out to a 17-2 lead and never looked back, beating the host Rangerettes 67-41 for their second straight Benton Christmas Classic championship.

The Lady Rams led 27-9 after one quarter and extended that lead to 42-21 at the half, before cruising to the 26-point win.

Senior Justice Malone led the offensive attack for Mt. Vernon with a game high 23 points. Kamaree Pollard and Malaina Zedalis added 10 each for the Lady Rams.

Ensley Tedeschi scored 22 to lead the Rangerettes.

Malone, Pollard, and Tiara Johnson from Mt. Vernon, as well as Tedeschi, Mia Wills, and Braelyn Miller from Benton all made the All-Tournament team. The team also included Suhmer Daubert (Vienna), Emma Gregg (Salem), Jerzy Bittle (Marion), Abby Compton (Goreville), Amayah Doyle (Carterville), and Amiah Hargrove (Christopher).
