Herrin edges Salem for Mt. Vernon Girls Bowling Regional championship

MT. VERNON — Led by freshman Sidnee Nelson, the Herrin Tigers rallied in the sixth and final game to edge Salem by 12 pins to capture the Mt. Vernon Girls Bowling Regional championship.

Herrin outscored Salem 969-922 in the final game for the win. Nelson rolled a 245 in the final game to overtake Salem’s Elena Vanhoutin for the individual title. Nelson finished with 1278 pins, Vanhoutin 1244. Herrin’s Madyson Labotte, Carbondale’s Taryn Russell, and Salem’s Jeada Rollinson rounded out the top five individuals.

Carterville and Anna-Jonesboro will join Herrin and Salem in next week’s Belleville East Sectional. Other advancing individuals include Russell, Brooke Kochel (Carbondale), Isabella Middendorf (Steeleville), Emily Elliott (Mt. Vernon), Makayla Storment (Mt. Vernon), Piper Stoffel (Steeleville), Mackenzie Partain (Harrisburg), Karol Simmons (Harrisburg), Victoria Swafford (Massac Co.), and Alexis Livesay (Christ Our Rock Lutheran).
