BLUFORD — Back on January 30th, the Woodlawn Lady Cardinals beat Christopher 59-38. The Lady Bearcats knew they might get a second chance against Woodlawn in the regional final, and they took full advantage.

Despite making only eight field goals in the game and with all-stater Amiah Hargrove being held to four points, the Lady Bearcats won the Webber 1A Regional championship 35-27, thanks to a stellar defensive effort.

And senior Makayla Dejear’s shooting.

Dejear hit a pair of 3-pointers in the second quarter to give Christopher the lead, and then added two more 3-pointers in the fourth quarter to give the Lady Bearcats some breathing room. Dejear finished with a game high 13 points, as no other player from either team reached double figures in the defensive scrum.

Christopher (27-3) will now get to head home for the sectional. The Lady Bearcats will face Black Diamond-West foe Goreville in the second semifinal Tuesday at 7:30. Edwards County will face Pope County in the first semifinal at Christopher. That game will tip off at 6:00.

The Lady Cardinals finished their season 23-8, the most wins for the program since 1986.
