MARION — The Murphysboro Lady Red Devils improved to 3-0 on the young season by scoring four runs in the ninth inning to win at Marion 7-3.

The Red Devils trailed 2-1 through three innings but scored two runs in the top of the fourth to take a 3-2 lead.

Then it was the Wildcats’ turn to rally in the bottom of the fifth, as Kaitlyn Reuss’ sacrifice fly scored pinch runner Paisley Freebourn tying the game 3-3.

It remained that way until the ninth, when the Lady Red Devils plated four. The big blow came off the bat of Sarah Cook, who just missed being a 3-run home run. Cook settled for a 2-run double and later scored on Marteena Clover’s RBI single.

Marion threatened putting two on in the bottom of the ninth, but Jaci Tuthill went the distance, finishing the complete game getting a harmless popup to Cook to end it.

The Lady Wildcats fall to 0-3 on the season.
