ZRC opens conference play with win at Johnston City

JOHNSTON CITY — The ZRC Tornadoes continued their impressive start to the 2023 baseball season with 8-1 win at Johnston City to open Black Diamond-West conference play.

Trey Cole went the distance on the mound for the Tornadoes, tossing a four-hitter, striking out 10 along with way.

Cole helped his own cause at the plate as well with three RBIs. Scout Hudgens drove in a pair for ZRC.

Johnston City grabbed a quick lead with a run in the bottom of the first, but the Tornadoes tied it with a run in the top of the seventh then took the lead with two in the third. ZRC added a run in the fifth and four more in the sixth capped by Cole’s bases loaded two-run single.

With the win, ZRC improves to 9-1 (1-0). Johnston City falls to 4-4 (0-1).
