Orthopaedic Center of Southern Illinois Player of the Week nominees

Voting is now open and will run through midnight Saturday for this week’s Orthopaedic Center of Southern Illinois Player of the Week.

Here are the nominees:
Anna-Jonesboro Girls 4×800 Relay: The team of Kenzie Miller, Brodie Denny, Zoe Jones, and Raegen Jones won the 4×800 at the Carterville Invitational with the state’s current top 2A time of 10:03.87. That time broke a 25-year old school record by nearly 12 seconds.

Trey Cole, ZRC: The senior was 7-12 with 2 home runs, 2 doubles, 11 RBI, 7 runs scored and 5 stolen bases in 4 games. Cole also was 1-0 on the mound allowing a run on 4 hits over 7 innings while striking out 10.

Izzy Doerr, Murphysboro: The freshman scored 8 goals to help the Red Devils go 3-0 for the week. Doerr scored 4 goals in the win over Anna-Jonesboro/Cobden.

Trey Gillespie, Murphysboro: The junior was 10-14 with 2 home runs, 2 doubles, 11 RBI, 5 runs scored and 3 stolen bases to help the Red Devils go 4-0 for the week.

Mt. Vernon Boys 4×100 Relay: The team of Anthony Lash, Judd Hicks, Jacari Virden, and Jacob Morrison won the 4×100 at the O’Fallon Relays with a time of 42.53 to set a new school record. That time is currently the second fastest in 2A.

Chris Nelson, Herrin: The sophomore won 5 individual events and was part of 3 winning relays at the Du Quoin Open and the Carterville Invitational. Nelson posted the state’s top 100 time regardless of class (10.70) at Carterville, as well as the state’s second fastest 2A time (22.02) in the 200 at Du Quoin.

Kaitlyn Reuss, Marion: The junior was 2-0 allowing 1 run on 5 hits over 14 innings while striking out 18 helping the Wildcats go 4-0 on the week. Reuss was 2-4 with a home run, double, and 3 RBI in a win over Mt. Vernon.
