JONESBORO — Sophomore Ruby Yates scattered four hits allowing one unearned run to help Anna-Jonesboro beat Carterville 3-1 and move into a first place tie atop the SIRR Mississippi with the Lady Lions.

The loss snapped Carterville’s nine-game winning streak that included a 6-4 win over A-J in Carterville. During the streak, the Lady Lions had outscored their opponents 104-16.

Yates settled in after giving up a two-out RBI hit to Maddie Rosenbery in the top of the first. Rosenbery’s hit scored Tennessee commit Amayah Doyle who had reached base on an error to open the game.

The Lady Wildcats took the lead with two runs in the fourth. After loading the bases, Kansas Craig scored on a passed ball, then Ariana Turner scored on a fielder’s choice to put A-J up 2-1. Turner added an insurance tally with a solo home run in the sixth.

Yates didn’t need it, retiring the Lady Lions in order in the seventh, leaving Doyle in the on deck circle.

Anna-Jonesboro’s win leaves both teams 5-1 in conference play with two game to play.
