CARTERVILLE — The ZRC Tornadoes are headed to the Carterville 2A Baseball Regional championship game thanks to a walkoff 1-0 win over the host Lions. Senior Talon Mills’ single past the drawn in infield in the bottom of the seventh scored Landen Butler with the game’s only run.

Pitching and defense dominated this one as ZRC starter Trey Cole and Carterville starter Brady Phillips were both outstanding. Cole allowed only two hits over seven innings while striking out five. Phillips allowed a run on five hits in 6 1/3 innings, striking out 11 along the way.

The winning rally started when Butler drew a walk and stole second. Carson Hobbs’ sacrifice bunt moved Butler to third, and set up Mills’ heroics.

The Tornadoes improve to 26-8. They will face Du Quoin Saturday morning at 11:00 in the title game. Carterville finishes its season 18-12.
