DU QUOIN — After losing to ZRC twice during the regular season, the Johnston City Lady Indians scored eight runs in the first inning and cruised past the Tornadoes 8-0 to capture the Du Quoin 2A Softball Regional championship.

Makenzie Mowery tripled, hit a grand slam, and scored twice during the Lady Indians’ huge first inning. The eight runs was more than enough for senior pitcher Gabby Overturf, who tossed a 1-hit shutout for the win.

Johnston City improves to 28-5 and will advance to the Pinckneyville Sectional to face Massac County. ZRC finishes 23-3.
