DU QUOIN — ZRC senior Trey Cole did a little bit of everything to help his Tornadoes take down Harrisburg 1-0 in semifinal action at the Du Quoin 2A Baseball Sectional.

Cole tossed a 5-hit shutout. He helped his own cause with a sprawling defensive play in the third inning to help thwart a Bulldogs’ rally, and then he drew a two-out, bases loaded walk in the top of the seventh to score Carson Hobbs with the only run of the game.

The defensive play in the third came after Harrisburg opened the inning with back to back singles. Jack Ford laid down a near perfect bunt, but Cole dove, and with the ball past him, grabbed it with his barehand, and threw from a prone position to Scout Hudgens for the force out at third.

The Tornadoes improve to 28-8 and advance to the first sectional championship game in program history. ZRC will face Nashville at 11:00 Saturday morning for the right to advance to the SIU 2A Supersectional Monday.

The Bulldogs finish another stellar campaign 31-4.
