Centralia — The Centralia Orphans we’re looking for their first win of the season Friday night at home vs former South Seven foe, the Belleville Althoff Crusaders. Things got off to a great start for Centralia as they would block an Althoff punt on the Crusaders first possession. Centralia would eventually capitalize with a 23 field goal from Kicker Theo Halut, it was 3-0 after one quarter of play.
Althoff would answer in early in the second quarter as star RB Dierre Hill Jr. would score his first of 6 touchdowns on the night, a 26 yard run at 11:51 of the 2Q. The Orphans would then put together a 14 play drive capped by a 30 field goal by Halut and it was 7-6 Althoff. The Orphans would then fall on a loose ball on the kickoff to Althoff, but then turn the ball over themselves. Althoff would then get a 61-yard touchdown run from Hill, two-point failed and it was 13-6 Crusaders. The Orphans would get the ball with 2:07 left in the first half when QB Daryle Jones connected on a 53 pass to Cam Tomlianovich down to the Althoff 20 yard line. Jones then scored on a 20-yard run and with the extra point it 13-13. Dierre Hill would score another on a 48-yard pass from QB Jayden Ellington, the conversion failed and it was 19-13. The Orphans would then answer before half, Jaylin Hoskins would return the kickoff down to the Althoff 37 yard line. A few plays later and an Althoff penalty, Centralia would get a 5-yard TD run from Keaton Morgan, extra point was good and the Orphans led 20-19 at halftime.
The Althoff Crusaders would then take over in the third quarter, thanks to RB Dierre Hill. Hill would score 3 straight touchdowns, scoring runs of 70 and 77 yards and a pick six and all of a sudden it was 41-20 Althoff. Antwan Strong would add 2 touchdowns along with one from Steven Brown. The Orphans would get touchdowns from Xavier Koch on a 37-yard pass from QB Daryle Jones and 10-yard run from Brayden Pate. The Crusaders would finish the game with 545 total yards, 431 of those on the ground.
The final score was 61-33 Althoff, as they improve to 3-0, the Orphans fall to 0-3 and play at Granite City next Friday night.
