Eldorado — The Flora Wolves scored a touchdown on the final play of the game to defeat Eldorado 18-14 to spoil the Eagles Homecoming night at Boz Adams Field. Sophomore quarterback Parker Helm found Braxton Huddlestun in the back of the end zone as time expired. Helm tried to run a bootleg from the 2 yard line, was pursued by the Eagles defense, almost sacked near the sideline, wiggled free and heaved a pass across his body toward the goal post where Huddlestun stood wide open to make the catch.

After the play, Eldorado head coach Joe Clark was penalized for unsportsmanlike conduct for arguing with the official. Clark believed there should have been a penalty on the play, perhaps for illegal lineman or linemen downfield. His emotion carried him to midfield during the team handshake where he had words with a coach from Flora. Tempers began to boil with a few shoves from both teams, players, coaches and fans. Law enforcement was called on the scene. One fan appeared to be injured in the skirmish and was tended to by first responders.

In a post game interview on WEBQ coach Clark admitted emotions were high. When asked about what set him off, he replied “Humans make mistakes. I thought there should have been a penalty, but I don’t know. I’m just not totally sure.”

The winning score was setup after Flora successfully completed a 28 yard pass on 4th and 7 from the Eldorado 38 yard line with under 2 minutes remaining. That completion setup first and goal from inside the 10. Flora scored the game winner 3 plays later.

Eldorado scored to put them on top with just 4:12 remaining on a one yard run by Ashton Robinson to put the Eagles up 14-12 but the defense could not stop Flora on their final drive.

Helm went 7-13 for 83 yards and 2 TDs. Jarrett Burkett ran 7 times for 111 yards, including a 68 yard score.

Eagles QB Coltin Patrick went 2-5 for 48 yards and a 40 yard TD pass to Drayson Grathler on the opening drive of the game. Patrick also had 53 yards rushing on 10 carries. With a first half interception, Eldorado committed their 1st turnover of the season.

The Eagles fall to 1-3 and will be on the road to Hamilton County next Friday on the Section 618 app as well as 102.3 Lite FM and on WMCL. Flora improves to 3-1 and will welcome in BDC leader Johnston City next week.
