Shout out to this week’s WMIX Sports/Josh Finley Rams of the Week, Brylie Brands & Maria Ibba! This dynamic duo of Lady Rams Tennis qualified for the state finals after finishing 4th at the Carbondale Sectional on Friday, Oct. 13! Brands & Ibba defeated Herrin’s Kiersten Killman & Branson Hill 6-0/6-0 in the first round then picked up the win against Centralia’s Madison Francois & Olivia Neudecker 6-2/6-3 in the quarters. Brylie & Maria fell to Carbondale’s Eislee Moore & Reagan Moore in the semis 6-1/6-1 and Benton’s Adrianna Tonn & Makenzie Andrews 6-4/6-2 in the 3rd place match. In the state finals yesterday, they fell in first round play to Woodstock (Marian)’s Holly Garrelts & Jenna Remke 6-3/7-6 (3) before bouncing back in consolation play against Teutopolis’s Jada Buehnerkemper & Adi Davidson in a 6-3/6-0 win. Today, they defeated Pontiac’s Brooke Burger & Olivia Masching 8-6 but fell 8-2 to Hinsdale South’s Hailey Goins and Arya Selvaraj in the third consolation round. Congratulations, Brylie and Maria!!!
