Congratulations to this week’s Josh Finley Country Financial CO-Rams of the Week from WMIX Sports! This week we salute Rams Bowling for their first ever trip to state and Lady Rams Wrestling’s Faith Barrett as the senior won an IHSA Regional Championship!

Rams Bowling:
Mt. Vernon Rams Bowling bowled in the IHSA State Finals for the first time in school history on Friday, Jan. 26. While they came up short in their bid to bowl in Saturday’s Finals, sophomore Travin Elliott did qualify as an individual. Elliott rolled 567 and 559 series en route to a Top 60 finish on Saturday (Elliott bowled 594 and 626 series on Friday).

As a team, the Rams rolled 5,568 on Friday.

Faith Barrett:
Barrett won the West Frankfort Regional in the 190 lb class with a 3-0 mark and scored 24 team points. Faith won by pinfall in 36 seconds in the quarterfinal over Waterloo’s Izabell McBride. In the semis Barrett pinned Goreville’s Krista McBride in 3 minutes before winning the title over Trico’s Maddie Ramaker by unanimous decision. Barrett advanced to the Peoria (Richwoods) Sectional on Feb. 9-10. Lily Davis (100 lb), Deziare Jones (120 lb), and Derika Gradford (155 lb) also advanced.
