Congratulations, Mt. Vernon Lady Rams Basketball! The Lady Rams are this week’s Josh Finley Country Financial Rams of the Week from WMIX Sports! The Lady Rams 4-peated and won the IHSA Class 3A Regional Championship at Waterloo. Mt. Vernon opened with a 60-23 semifinal win over Mascoutah and then thumped East St. Louis 59-48 to claim the crown. Melaina Zedalis had 33 combined points in the regional, Tiara Johnson added 31, Kamara Pollard netted 29, while Autumn Rudd 9, Maelee Allen and Kyle Poole each 6, Arwyn Wilkey 3, and Josie Shirley 2, rounded out the tournament scoring. The Lady Rams would go to this week’s Effingham Sectional where they fell in the semifinal to the host Lady Hearts on Tuesday night, 74-59. The South Seven and Regional Champs finished with a 26-7 overall record and are coached by Jeff Lonnon who is assisted by Matthew C. Pool and Jami Williams. Congratulations, Lady Rams Basketball!
