This week’s Josh Finley Country Financial Ram of the Week from WMIX Sports is Xander Ashby and the Mt. Vernon Rams Golf Team!

The Rams captured the IHSA Class 2A Regional Championship on Wednesday, October 1, at Hickory Ridge Golf Course in Carbondale. Mt. Vernon carded a team score of 316, edging out Benton (318) and Carterville (320) in a tight battle at the top of the leaderboard.

Leading the way was junior Xander Ashby, who fired an impressive 2-under-par 70 to earn individual medalist honors and claim the Regional Championship. He was followed by solid performances from Gage Raney (81), Abel Nelson (82), Slade Emery (83), Coleton Crawford (84), and Lucas Ohley (86).

The Rams advanced to the Highland Sectional on Monday, October 6, where they finished fifth as a team. Ashby’s consistency continued there, where he shot a one-over 72 to qualify for the IHSA State Tournament as an individual.
