
Lynn Braden State Farm / WMCL Fox of the Week: Rayci Phelps
Senior guard Rayci Phelps turned in a standout week on the court and etched her name deeper into Lady Foxes basketball history, earning this week’s Lynn Braden State Farm / WMCL Fox of the Week honors.
Phelps delivered strong performances in both contests, beginning Thursday, December 18, in a 56–42 loss to Carbondale. She led the Lady Foxes with 10 points, while adding 5 rebounds, 2 assists, and 2 steals against a tough Terriers lineup.
Saturday’s matchup against Sesser-Valier/Waltonville showcased Phelps at her best. The senior poured in 26 points, grabbed 10 rebounds, dished out 3 assists, and recorded 4 steals in a dominant 57–33 victory, posting a double-double in the process.
During the Carbondale game, Phelps reached a major career milestone, surpassing Lori Kirsch to become the second all-time leading scorer in Lady Foxes history. She now trails only Abby Rankin, who holds the program record with 2,014 career points.
Phelps enters the Benton Christmas Classic with 1,570 career points, continuing her climb up the record books as the Lady Foxes prepare to face Vienna today at 1:30 PM.
