Hamilton County Jr. High Lady Foxes Basketball
The Hamilton County Jr. High Lady Foxes are this week’s Lynn Braden State Farm Insurance / WMCL Fox of the Week, and their championship run makes them a well-deserving selection.
The Lady Foxes captured the Southern Illinois Junior High School Athletic Association (SIJHSAA) Class L Regional Championship, showcasing grit, defense, and composure throughout the postseason.
Hamilton County secured the regional title with a thrilling 46–43 victory over West Frankfort (Central) in the championship game. The Lady Foxes advanced to the title matchup after an outstanding defensive effort in the semifinal round, defeating Benton 21–9.
Led by Head Coach Jacob Gray, Hamilton County has enjoyed a remarkable season from start to finish. In addition to their regional championship, the Lady Foxes also claimed the Coal Belt Conference Championship, establishing themselves as one of the premier junior high girls basketball programs in Southern Illinois while the postseason journey continues.
Hamilton County is currently scheduled to compete in the SIJHSAA Class L Quarterfinals on Thursday, January 29, at 7:15 pm at Rend Lake College, where the Lady Foxes will take on Belleville West. The game was originally slated for Saturday, January 24, but was postponed due to weather.
