Hamilton County Foxes Sophomore Boys Basketball

The Hamilton County Foxes sophomore boys basketball team has been named the Lynn Braden State Farm Insurance / WMCL Fox of the Week after capturing the 48th Annual Murphysboro Sophomore Tournament Championship on Saturday, March 7.

The Foxes put together an impressive run through a deep and competitive tournament field on their way to the title.

Hamilton County opened tournament play on Saturday, February 28, edging Vienna 52–51 in a thrilling first-round matchup. The Foxes advanced to the next round on Wednesday, March 4, where they defeated Breese Central to punch their ticket to championship Saturday.

In the semifinal round on March 7, Hamilton County battled past Sesser-Valier 45–42 in double overtime in one of the most dramatic games of the tournament. The Foxes then returned to the floor later that day and capped off their championship run with a 48–32 victory over Trico in the title game.

The tournament featured a strong lineup of teams from across Southern Illinois including Murphysboro, Carterville, Thompsonville, Pinckneyville, Du Quoin, Herrin, Waltonville, Wayne City, West Frankfort, Johnston City, and Chester, making the championship run even more impressive.

With the tournament title, the Hamilton County sophomore Foxes finish the season with an outstanding 21–2 record, showcasing the depth and future promise of the Foxes basketball program.
