Ryley Stewart – Senior – Waltonville Spartans (#24)
Waltonville senior Ryley Stewart delivered a standout performance during the IHSA Class 1A Sectional at Trico, helping lead the Spartans on a deep postseason run and earning this week’s Tony Wielt State Farm / WMIX Sports Showcase Impact Player of the Week honors.
In the Sectional Semifinal on Tuesday, March 3, Stewart powered the Spartans with 24 points in a convincing 64–43 win over the Hardin County Cougars, helping Waltonville punch its ticket to the sectional championship.
Stewart followed that up with another strong all-around effort in the Sectional Final on Friday, March 6 against the Goreville Blackcats. While the Spartans came up just short in a 47–44 loss, Stewart’s suffocating defensive effort was instrumental in keeping the high-powered Blackcats offense in check. Goreville — which will play for the IHSA Class 1A State Championship — was held to just 47 points, thanks in large part to Waltonville’s defensive intensity led by Stewart.
His scoring, leadership, and defensive pressure helped Waltonville battle one of the state’s best teams to the final possession and capped off a memorable postseason run for the Spartans.
For his performance in the IHSA Class 1A Sectional, Waltonville senior Ryley Stewart is the Tony Wielt State Farm / WMIX Sports Showcase Impact Player of the Week.
