The Mt. Vernon freshman boys track and field team made history Thursday, April 23, capturing the 40th Annual O’Fallon Freshman Boys Invitational championship for the first time in program history.

The Rams piled up 150.5 team points to outdistance a strong field that included Edwardsville (125) and Belleville East (96), showcasing depth across nearly every event.

Mt. Vernon was powered by multiple individual champions and a balanced effort on the track and in the field.

Samuel Ohley led the way on the track with a first-place finish in the 400 meters, running a personal-best 52.65. In the distance events, the Rams dominated as William Green won the 1600 meters (4:40.67 PB), while Rylan Cravens took first in the 3200 meters (11:39.24 PB) and added a seventh-place finish in the 1600. Luke Stanford contributed with a third-place finish in the 800 (2:16.35 PB) and third in the 3200.
