The Mt. Vernon Rams boys tennis team earned this week’s Josh Finley Country Financial/WMIX Sports Ram of the Week honors after posting a dominant 9-0 sweep over the Fairfield Mules on Wednesday, April 29, at the newly christened Randy Knox Courts at MVTHS, according to TennisReporting.com.

The Rams showcased a balanced lineup filled with young talent, led by a trio of freshmen singles winners. At No. 1 singles, freshman Rylan Cravens rolled past Grady Simpson 6-0, 6-1. Fellow freshman Auggie Tinsley secured a straight-set victory at No. 2 singles over Nick Munox 6-4, 6-1, while freshman Josiah Orrill completed the singles sweep with a 6-2, 6-0 win against Jed Wellen at No. 3.

Mt. Vernon continued its strong performance in doubles play. The No. 1 doubles team of Tinsley and freshman Marcus Sneddon battled to a 7-6 (5), 6-2 victory over Simpson and Munox. Cravens and Orrill dominated at No. 2 doubles with a 6-0, 6-1 win against Kale Gregory and Tomas Cidoncha. Juniors Jacob Searle and Derek Bloom Ellis capped off the sweep at No. 3 doubles, defeating Wellen and Dominick Demaret 7-6 (3), 6-4.

The convincing victory highlighted the Rams’ strong mix of youth and experience while defending their home courts in impressive fashion.
