This week’s Tony Wielt State Farm Showcase Impact Player is Waltonville senior Gage Peterson, who was named Most Valuable Player of the 51st Christopher Turkey Tournament.
Peterson delivered a dominant championship performance, posting 19 points and 9 rebounds in Waltonville’s 54–47 win over rival Webber. Gage had a huge third-quarter bucket pushed the Spartans’ lead into double digits and forced a Webber timeout—a big momentum-shifting plays from the senior leader.
The championship victory capped Waltonville’s third straight tournament title and marked Peterson’s second consecutive MVP honor, making him just the fifth player in tournament history to win back-to-back MVP awards.
Peterson finished the week with 48 total points, showcasing his impact even after seeing limited minutes in early blowout wins over Marissa/Coulterville and New Athens. When the stage brightened, Peterson rose to the moment—leading the Spartans to yet another championship and earning this week’s Showcase Impact Player recognition.
