Gage Peterson – Senior, 6’5” Forward/Center
Waltonville Spartans
Waltonville senior Gage Peterson delivered a performance to remember at the 95th and final Midland Trail Conference Tournament, earning Tournament MVP honors while leading the Spartans to the championship at Sides Gymnasium in Woodlawn.
Peterson capped off the tournament with 23 points in the championship game, powering Waltonville to a 53–34 win over archrival Woodlawn on Saturday, January 24. The victory marked a fitting close to the final MTC Tournament, and Peterson was at the center of it all.
Along the way, Peterson etched his name permanently into Waltonville history. During the tournament, he surpassed 2,000 career points and moved past Ryan Norris (Class of 1991) to become the Spartans’ all-time leading scorer, eclipsing Norris’ previous mark of 1,995 points.
Peterson’s impact was felt throughout the entire tournament run. He opened play with a dominant 25-point, 15-rebound performance in a 76–32 win over Grayville, then followed with 12 points and 6 rebounds in the 69–25 semifinal victory over Patoka/Odin.
From scoring and rebounding to leadership in high-pressure moments, Peterson’s all-around play defined the Spartans’ championship run and secured his place as one of the most accomplished players in program history.
