For the second straight week, Dalton St. Angelo is the Josh Finley Country Financial / WMIX Sports Ram of the Week — and this time it comes with a state medal.

St. Angelo capped an outstanding postseason by finishing 5th at the IHSA State Finals in Champaign in the 120-pound weight class, battling through one of the toughest brackets in Class 2A.

Thursday, February 19, St. Angelo faced Morris’ Paxton Valentine in the opening round. Battling against elite competition on the biggest stage in Illinois wrestling, he dropped an 11-0 major decision — forcing him into the wrestle-back bracket.

What followed was a relentless climb.

On Friday, St. Angelo began his comeback with a pin of Oak Park Fenwick’s Harrison Brown in 2:14. He followed that with another dominant performance, pinning Deerfield’s Jorey Becker in 2:54 to continue advancing.

Saturday was even more impressive.

He opened the day with a commanding 17-1 technical fall over Hinsdale South’s Alexander Schuetz. In the consolation semifinals, St. Angelo delivered a clutch 7-4 decision victory over Kannon Judycki to guarantee a spot on the state podium.

In the 5th place match, St. Angelo finished strong — defeating Chatham (Glenwood)’s Jaxon Ferguson by 6-2 decision to secure 5th place in the state.

From an opening-round setback Thursday… to five consecutive wins in the wrestle-back bracket… to standing on the IHSA podium Saturday night — St. Angelo showcased resilience, toughness, and championship-level composure.
