Newsom’s late 3 leads Marion past Nashville

MARION — The Marion Wildcats rallied from seven points down in the fourth quarter to beat Nashville 41-39 in the final game of the Wildcat Shootout.

Rayzhaun Bardo hit a trio of three-pointers in the fourth quarter to help stoke the Marion rally, but Bardo’s biggest play may have been an assist. Down one with less than 20 seconds to go, Bardo got into the lane and kicked a pass out to Venson Newsom, who buried the go ahead three.

Nashville had a couple of chances to win it in the final seconds, but could not get either to go down, and fittingly, Bardo snagged the rebound to run out the clock.

The Hornets will return to action Friday at home with the conference opener against Anna-Jonesboro.

The Wildcats will hit the road Friday as they get back into South 7 play with a visit to Althoff.
