Goreville remains unbeaten, wins S-V Holiday Tournament title


SESSER — The Goreville Blackcats won the 39th Sesser-Valier Holiday Tournament title by beating Altamont 74-65 in a match up of unbeaten teams.

The Blackcats used a 9-1 run in the first quarter to build an eight point lead only to watch the Indians storm back and tie it up in the second quarter. Goreville regained control by scoring the final nine points of the half to take a 37-28 lead into the break.

Goreville extended its lead to double figures in the third, and took a 50-38 lead into the fourth quarter before winning by nine.

Trent Glidewell led all scorers with 17. Fellow Blackcats Nick Compton (16), Carter Bishop (13), and Landon Albright (13) joined Glidewell in double figures. Altamont’s Kaden Eirhart led all scorers with 19. Aidan Jahraus added 18.

The Blackcats improve to 14-0 on the season. The Indians fall to 11-1.
